The Thrashers gave up waaaaaaay to much for Keith T.?
And if he resigns with ATL, they have to give an 08 1st rounder as well............holy crap.

that's crap, they give up 3 picks (1,2,3 in different year) for Tkachuk who never win the cup before. So I guess the rumour that Blues want 2 1st rounder for Guerin is true. lol

Yes, Atlanta gave up waaaay too much for a rental player. I think one first and maybe a 3rd or Metropolit would have been enough. This is making the Anson Carter deal look like gold for Carolina.

Talking about overpayment, how about the Rivet trade? It makes Tkachuk looks way better now.

Remember when teams gave rental players out of respect for that player so they would have a chance at winning a cup. These guys are going for waaaaaaay too much.

Didn't SJ have 2 first round picks though? I thought they had NJ 1st rounder as a result of the Malakov deal before the season started. It might appear as if teams are overpaying but I think that is because so few teams are actually sellers at this point and the buyers are creating a bidding war and the ante is a 1st rounder

Even you have 2 first round picks, it doesn't mean you just deal that for Rivet. Every trade is over-pay now. Though, I won't blame any team but the Dallas Stars (Nagy for 1st rounder) to set the market value high.

The thing is by giving up a first rounder for Rivet, we have no idea which team it prevented Rivet from going to..when it becomes a bidding war like this you overpay to get the player, but also over pay because it prevents him from going to a competitor. I'd rather give up the unknown of a pick then a top prospect within the system...which is what the price would have been. I realize that may seem like overpaying for Rivet, but defensive defensemen typically get no love by fans so it is hard to guage their value to a team...especially one like SJ who needs some experience on the blueline
If I am a buying GM I would have no problem giving up my first rounder this year...but it's when the pick dealt is in subsequent years that's when I think it is dangerous. ie if the Flyers would have dealt their pick for this year at last years deadline thinking it would be another late first rounder

Why the sabres need Zubrus?? I am puzzled.
How about Bertuzzi trade. Florida really like to get ripped off.. So you can read the Luongo trade this way: Luongo + Krajicek for for Allen, Auld, Mathias, conditional pick?? wow

Why the sabres need Zubrus?? I am puzzled. They don't, I am puzzled as well. Even with all the injuries the team has really pulled together and played very well with all the young kids up. Everybody except Gaustad should be ready come playoff time, I don't see the point in this trade or the Biron trade for that matter.

Buffalo Sabresmoves = panic

Buffalo Sabresmoves = panic I don't understand why though. The team is still playing very well despite 7 injuries in the last 13 days. Still going 7-2-1 in the last 10 and splitting the last 2 games with one of the hottest teams in the NHL (the loss coming in a one goal game with the deciding goal coming in the final minutes).

not sure why either, but it does look like they panicked. I just don't think trading for Zubrus was worth having to deal Biron earlier in the day. Novotny and a first for Zubrus was the worst deal of the day in my opinion especially when Bertuzzi only cost a conditional pick and an 18 year old later on.
