So what do you guys think of the signings so far? I just have a few thoughts:
Even though 6.5 mil is a respectable cap hit (compared to the other deals yesterday) for Briere, over the course of 8 years I think that is WAY too much. Sure it looks good now but in 8 years that's not gonna be looking so great. And 10 million fucking dollars? Highest paid player in the NHL next year, absolutely insane. Granted, Philly has the money for it and it definitly makes them better, that kind of money is nuts.
The Rangers are going to be a team to fear next year as well.

I agree completely it was way too much. Think about it, Thornton makes what, 7.2 million per year and I would say he's on a whole other level than Briere. In Buffalo, no offence to Briere or anything but all their players are going to have inflated stats because of the style they play there.

I've worn myself out discussing the Sabres and Briere and Drury. All I'll say is that I think they'll be alright, and I really have no issue with the fact that the management did not get either of them signed for the contracts they ended up with.

I have no problem the they didn't get them signed to the contracts they received either, nor do I think the sky is falling in Buffalo or anything like that. What does bother me is what came out in the news today. Drury agreed to a 4 year/$21 mil (don't quote me on that, not sure if that's the exact contract but it was somewhere in the 5-5.5 mil/year range) contract mid-season, but Buffalo never formally completed the deal. It was all but done, just needed to be signed and processed or whatever, and Buffalo never carried through. Now that pisses me off.

Great moves by NYR, they're gonna be scary good if they can gel with two brand new top 2 centers. Overpaid big time for Gomez though, IMO. Same with Briere and PHI. Nice move by PHI, way to expensive though.
LA is looking stronger by the day. IMO they'v eimproved the most of any team.
A couple nice additions by WSH too.
ANA - WTF?!?! Burke gets to continue his man-crush on Bert (overspent for him too) AND gets Schneid? Wow, if Nieds actually decides to play another year, their D is going to be ridiculous.
DET - Nice job getting Rafalski, younger, better defensively than Schneider (definitely gotta have less giveaways). Just gotta re-sign Hasek, D.Markov, and get either S. Kozlov or Guerin to give some offence to the 2nd line.
Not sure how I feel about Zubrus going to NJ, but I'll be interested to see how that plays out.
Nice moves by COL getting Smyth and Hannan. This greatly improves their D and gives Sakic a definite upgrade on the wing. They'll be playoff bund for sure next year, I may even go so far as to predict that they win the Northeast (assuming Budaj can hold the fort and/or Theo remembers how to play hockey again).
Isles seem to be the big losers, lost a bunch of contributors, didn't really get anything of note back, gave away their best two prospects in the Smyth deal, and now that the FA crop has been picked pretty thin, they don't have much to pick from. No offence to Derek or Jesse, but the Sabres are the next bggest losers behind the Isles IMO. It'll be interesting to see how they respond after losing their top two C's. Vanek and Afin are going to have to step up even more, along with Pom, Roy, Stafford, etc.
I've probably missed a few teams worth commenting one, but these were the ones that popped into my head first.

I always feel like there's more out there then we know and the press twists things when it comes to what happened with contracts.
